EPH Services recently completed an oil boiler installation in Norfolk for a renovation and extension project in Mileham, including a new Worcester Bosch Greenstar 12/18kW oil boiler, full heating carcass, underfloor heating, radiators, new bathrooms and kitchen plumbing, oil tank and supply, and an unvented hot water cylinder.

This Mileham property underwent a significant renovation and extension, and our team at EPH Services was brought in to design and install the complete plumbing and heating system from the ground up. Working on a blank canvas like this allows us to plan pipework routes, position radiators and underfloor heating zones for maximum efficiency, and ensure every element of the system works together seamlessly.
The project included a full heating carcass throughout the property, meaning all pipework was routed and installed before final finishes. We also fitted new bathrooms and kitchen plumbing, ensuring hot and cold water supplies and waste connections were positioned exactly where needed.

At the heart of the system is a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 12/18kW utility oil boiler, a compact and efficient model ideal for properties in rural Norfolk where mains gas is not available. The boiler was installed in the utility room alongside an unvented hot water cylinder, providing high-pressure hot water to taps and showers throughout the home.
We installed a new oil storage tank in the garden on a prepared concrete base, complete with all supply pipework and fire-valve protection. Our engineers are OFTEC-registered, ensuring all oil-fired work meets current building regulations and safety standards.

The property benefits from a mix of underfloor heating and traditional radiators. Underfloor heating was installed in the extension and key living areas, providing gentle, even warmth and freeing up wall space. Radiators were fitted throughout the rest of the property, sized and positioned to match each room’s heat loss.
The underfloor heating pipework was laid and pressure-tested before the floor screed went down, and a manifold with zone controls allows the homeowner to manage temperatures in different areas independently. All pipework and components are visible in the utility room plant area, making future servicing straightforward.

Many homes in and around Mileham, Dereham and rural mid-Norfolk are off the gas grid, making oil a popular and reliable choice. Modern condensing oil boilers like the Worcester Bosch Greenstar are far more efficient than older models, and with a well-maintained system, running costs can be competitive—especially when oil prices are stable.
That said, if you’re currently heating with oil or LPG and considering a more sustainable option, it’s worth noting that the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of up to £7,500 (and in some cases £9,000) toward the cost of installing an air source heat pump in Norfolk. Our team is MCS-certified and can guide you through the process if you’d like to explore renewable heating.
When we talk about a full heating carcass, we mean the complete first-fix installation of pipework, manifolds, valves and cylinder before any walls are plastered or floors finished. This stage is critical: everything must be planned, routed and pressure-tested to ensure there are no leaks or issues once the property is completed.
Our scope of work on this Mileham project included:
Every connection was pressure-tested and certified, and the system was fully commissioned once the property was ready for handover.
With annual servicing by an OFTEC-registered engineer, a Worcester Bosch Greenstar oil boiler typically lasts 15–20 years. Regular maintenance is key to efficiency and longevity.
Yes. The government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of up to £7,500 (and up to £9,000 when replacing oil or LPG systems) toward the cost of an air source heat pump installation. EPH Services is MCS-certified and can help you apply.
Yes. All new oil boiler installations must comply with Part L of the Building Regulations. As OFTEC-registered installers, we handle all notifications and certification on your behalf.
An unvented cylinder delivers mains-pressure hot water to taps and showers without the need for a cold-water tank in the loft. This means better shower performance and more usable space. Installation must be carried out by a G3-qualified engineer, which all our heating engineers are.
Whether you’re renovating, extending or replacing an aging heating system, EPH Services provides complete boiler installation, underfloor heating and central heating services across Norfolk. We’re OFTEC, Gas Safe and MCS-certified, and we pride ourselves on tidy, reliable work that’s built to last.
